Look at my new header! It was designed by none other than Mark Haven Britt, graphic artist extraordinaire, of Garbage Time All-Stars fame. I think it really captures what this blog is about: the Toronto Raptors, Roko Ukic, and the potential for Ukic to become as good as Pete Maravich (I keed, I keed). A thousand thanks, Mark!
Another thousand thanks to Nels for putting up the header, as well as moving Pete Marasmitch to Wordpress in his mighty fantasy basketball arms. Be sure to click on his ads, friends.
What do you think of the new header? Delicious, or sacrilicious? Please comment.
The commute and at night – that’s when ideas hit me. Some don’t work out so well (see the Thunderous Contest Failure), but some do.
So I was thinking of a way to track and blog about the Raptors this season without committing a whole lot of time to researching and watching games, as I might if I were to do game recaps. Why not, then, focus on one particular player, a Pete Marasmitch mascot? The best candidate in my mind is Roko Ukic. Why?
He’s a six-foot-five guard, like Maravich.
He won’t play too many minutes, so my Roko Ratings will fill a niche.
He won’t play too many minutes, so it will be less work for me.
What will be in the Roko Ratings?
the game results
his line
any observations from the internets
my response to any commentary from aforementioned internets
my opinions and/or highlights of his play
maybe a photo
some kind of rating – an overall “score” of how he did that night
I think I’ll run with this and see how long I can sustain it.
There I was, doing my commute across the 401, and it struck me: “Pete Marasmitch.” It’s a beautiful combination of my recent discovery (Pistol Pete Maravich) and my post-NHL lockout love (the Toronto Raptors).
Now, I don’t love Sam Mitchell, but I don’t hate him as some fans out there do. Nor am I going to analyze and criticize his coaching decisions and style. That’s not what I’m about. I’m a think-positive blogger who appreciates the NBA for what it is: entertainment. If the Raptors can get beyond the first round of the playoffs, great! If not — well, too bad. Life goes on, and I’ll be reading DraftExpress while we wait for summer to begin. And I’ll probably think of some off-the-wall post to amuse you.
Which leads me to my schedule: I ain’t got one! I have a busy life outside of blogging. But whenever a great idea or burning thought crosses my mind, I’ll try to come here and write it up. And more than likely I’ll have read and hyped up articles and posts in the blogosphere, which you can see on my BallHype profile.
So, welcome to Pete Marasmitch! Let’s see how long this ride will last.
