What Marcus Banks says to Patrick O’Bryant

September 14th, 2009

It took about a month of kneading and baking, but its golden-brown goodness is ready: my latest comic over at Raptors Republic.

And I must say, all that mental kneading was worthwhile. My initial idea was more of a conversation between Marcus Banks and Patrick O’Bryant, and was inspired by the fact that both of them are shoo-ins for the inactive list. What will they talk about at the end of the bench in their fancy suits? Maybe how P.O.B. ought to capitalize on the final year of this contract, maybe his final year in the N.B.A.?

But once I gathered up all the comic-worthy photos, it was clear that it was going to be more Patty-centric.

Besides – and you might find this odd – there are no photos out there of Banks in Raptors game gear. Hmm!

Bryan Colangelo, a.k.a. Ozymandias?

August 1st, 2009

BC king of kings previewCheck out my latest post in a looooong time, a comic-style thingy, now up at the Raptors Republic. Yeah, you heard me. Comic thingy. Raptors Republic.

Thanks to AltRaps for the kind words, both publicly and privately. You’re quite motivational yourself, Altie.

Ahem. Back to the post: It was inspired by my long-time appreciation of Bryan Colangelo, the best general manager we’ve ever had and probably ever will.

Also an inspiration was the poem “Ozymandias” by Percy Bysshe Shelley. I’ve seen that particular line quoted also in Watchmen, Savage Land and Grade 10 English class.

What did you think of the B.C. comic post? Got ideas for future posts? Comment below.

Help E. Smith bring the NBA back to Vancouver

March 18th, 2009

E. Smith: Donate.

Some time ago, Eric Smith got a couple of his Raptors media compadres to commit to $20, 000, in a bid to bring the NBA back to Vancouver. Well, that bid’s still on his mind. On a recent Rap:

Admittedly, I don’t have a lot of cash.  In fact, I really don’t know how I’d raise $2000 let alone $20,000 – but I’ll find a way.  If I have to cash-in a GIC or an RRSP I’ll do so; I’ll even take out a 2ND mortgage on my home.  But whatever it takes, I’ll put up $20k to help bring an NBA team back to Vancouver.

Paul Jones is in for $20 G’s as well and if memory serves me right, I’ve got Jack Armstrong committed to the same dollar figure too.

So that’s $60,000 between the 3 of us.  We’re the minority owners.

But now comes the hard part …

We need a majority owner.  I’m thinking we need about $249,940,000.  So if there’s anybody out there with just under $250 million kicking around – give us a call or drop us an email or something!

You got a few million dollars? Help out Eric Smith. Help out Canada.

Oh, and when we do get the team, let’s call it the Vancouver Voltron.
