Your Basketblog Header Champion is…
It was quite the battle between our two juggernauts, Bust a Bucket and Basketbawful. Both mowed through the competition to reach this point, where they faced the battle of their bloggy lives. Only one blog would emerge victorious.
There were two thousand, seven hundred and seventy-eight votes, the most ever in a single poll in Pete Marasmitch history. Sixty-six percent of you have chosen this blog as having the best header in basketblogdom.
And this blog is …
… revealed, after the jump.
And the Best Basketblog Header 2009 belongs to …
Let’s wade through the confetti and get a few words from the faceman of Bust a Bucket, Sheed.
Pete: What inspired you to start Bust a Bucket?
Sheed: We started this website in September of 2008 as a way to follow and discuss the Blazers closer than ever before. CDub and I went to college together and we’ve been Blazer fans our whole lives.
We weren’t blog savvy by any means but we’ve been learning as the season has gone on. The thought was that with some creativity, a little knowledge and some help from our friends, we could make a website that people would enjoy.
As far as the blog name, that would be the name of an early 90’s song performed by Dan Reed and the Trail Blazer players seen here. I still know the song word for word. That Trail Blazer team with Terry Porter, Clyde Drexler, Jerome Kersey, Buck Williams and Kevin Duckworth (R.I.P.) is what inspired us fans to love the Portland Trail Blazers.
Pete: What were some of your favorite BaB posts?
Sheed: One of our most successful posts of all time had to be the Top 10 most hated NBA players which was a collaborative effort by 25+ other blogs. CDub did the photoshop work, I put it all together and it still seems to get comments even months later.
Other great posts included the mock interview with Raef Lefrentz’s expiring contract, an interview with a true Blazer homer and broadcaster Mike Rice, and of course silly stuff like Jon Barry’s love affair with Rudy Fernandez. We’ve had a lot of fun in our first blog season.
Pete: Tell us about the evolution of the BaB logo and header.
Our first banner was created by CDub when we were running with Blogger. It was a simple banner, a picture of the Rose Quarter and the heads of Brandon Roy and Greg Oden on each side.
Within a few months of existence we began discussions with a new, but very promising network called Bloguin. The head man at Bloguin made us a very cool new banner with some creative B’s and a fresh look. Unfortunately the Blazer organization was none too happy with our skewed use of the Blazer pinwheels.
With that in mind, we employed our very good friend Jerry. Jerry is a graphic design student at Oregon State University, and he is the man responsible for our current banner. The banner heading has a totally unique style and the background drawings include Portland landmarks. It is a banner that Portlanders can really appreciate.
Pete: Can you give us a sneak peak into the future of BaB?
Sheed: The future is bright for Bust a Bucket. We have a great core group of guys; from T-shirt makers to Spanish translators. Hopefully we can implement things like podcasts, Blazer roundtables and hopefully we get an opportunity to join the press at the games next year. No matter what happens, it’s been fun to follow the young Blazers through an incredible season.
Pete: Anything else you want to talk about?
Sheed: Big shout out to Jerry for the banner. Obviously without that we wouldn’t be here. I’d also like to thank all the Bust a Bucket contributors, fans and of course the Blazer players for being so much fun to follow. Also, thanks to PeteMarasmitch.com for this great opportunity.
Pete: My pleasure. Congratulations, Bust a Bucket crew.
Roll credits and theme music. Seacrest, out.
